Fortnite is one of the most popular competitive games, boasting a massive community with a lot of talent and offering attractive prizes. Its competitive scene is facing controversy, as Epic Games revealed that a player who earned thousands of dollars in competitions used cheats.

According to the details, the player Sebastian Araujo participated in several Battle Royale tournaments. The young prospect stood out for his impressive skills; however, it was all a lie. Epic discovered that he used cheats to win multiple competitions and pocket a significant amount of money.

As a result, the studio decided to publicly expose the case and sue Araujo, who, of course, will never be allowed to compete again. At the same time, Epic announced changes to prevent such situations from happening again in its competitive circuit.

Epic Games conducted an investigation and concluded that Sebastian Araujo used various types of cheats to win the tournaments he participated in. To be more specific, the cheater employed tricks to see players through walls and achieve perfect aim.

The studio explained that Araujo “pocketed thousands of dollars” by participating in qualifiers, prompting Epic to sue him for violating its policies and negatively affecting its competitions with prohibited practices.

"This week we filed a lawsuit against a player who cheated in our tournaments. This player used cheating software and hardware, and tried to avoid getting caught by using multiple accounts. It didn’t work. Cheating has no place in Fortnite and we’re doing everything we can to stop it, including legal action."

Due to this case and its impact on the competitive scene, Epic Games announced significant changes to prevent cheating in its tournaments. For now, there are no further details on Araujo's case, but it is clear that he will be banned from Battle Royale competitions forever.

Epic reinforces Fortnite tournaments to prevent cheaters

Since last month, Epic Games announced new measures to prevent cheaters in its tournaments. The studio revealed that all players teaming up with cheaters will be suspended for at least 28 days from the competitions.

Additionally, players with 14-day suspensions will not be able to participate in FNCS tournaments during that season and other seasons that overlap with the penalty period. Lastly, Epic clarified that legal actions against individuals using or selling cheats will be more severe.

“We want Fortnite tournaments to be fun and fair for all competitors. People who cheat in tournaments to gain an unfair advantage ruin the experience for everyone. We are making fundamental changes to combat cheating in our tournaments.”
