Though far from genius, Lollipop Chainsaw became a cult classic of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 generation due to its irreverent style. A new audience will be able to enjoy it for the first time thanks to a remake that is in development, although the wait will be longer than expected.
In mid-2022, the studio Dragami Games revealed that they were working on a new version of the 2012 classic. At that time, they refrained from revealing many details and only indicated that the release was planned for sometime this year. Unfortunately, there has been a change of plans.
LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW REPOP EXPERIENCES A DELAY BUT NOW HAS A NEW RELEASE WINDOW
Through a post, Yoshimi Yasuda, CEO of Dragami Games, shared news that disappointed fans. The Lollipop Chainsaw remake has been delayed and will now debut in the summer of 2024. It's explained that the decision was made to have more time to provide the best possible experience.
This news came with some updates. The developers confirmed the name of the new version: Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP. Additionally, a new artwork was shown where it's observed that the design of Juliet Starling is very similar to the original version.
We must recall that the design of the protagonist was a subject of controversy and concern when the remake was announced, as a portion of the community feared the developers might censor it.
"Although development of RePOP was carried out with the intention of a 2023 release, our commitment to providing the best possible quality experience to our players led us to making the hard decision to extend the development period in order to ensure this. We sincerely apologize to all who had been waiting for the latest installment in the Lollipop Chainsaw series, and kindly ask for your understanding in this matter", Dragami Games said.
We will have to wait a little longer to discover if this new version respects the essence of the original work, while also hoping it corrects errors and improves some aspects of gameplay and visual presentation. However, it's important to note that neither Suda51 or James Gunn are involved.
But tell us, does this project pique your interest? Let us know in the comments.
