Crypt of the NecroDancer could get a sequel

After five years, developer Brace Yourself Games released a huge update

Rhythm dungeon crawler Crypt of the NecroDancer received its first update in five years via a free patch on Steam a few days ago.

The new post on the game’s official blog lists a big list of changes included with this update. There is also a level editor built into the game, and Steam Deck support has been added.

Fans of the game, however, may find it even more interesting as the team at Brace Yourself Games has stated that this update is only a small step towards something even bigger that the developer has planned in the future.

“You may be saying ‘Brace Yourself Games, it’s been five years, why are you updating now? Well, let’s just say that this update is a precursor to something bigger that’s about to come, and we want to make sure that we resolve the most important feedback from the community before we do it.”

While it definitely sounds like a sequel it might also be a major expansion that is on the way. At the moment, we don’t know much more, but we can spend the time until the announcement experimenting with some of the new features added. For example, we can now save and close the game at any time, there are more options to add custom music in different formats, and improvements have been made to cooperative play.

Crypt of the Necrodancer came out in 2015. It is available on PlayStation 4, PS Vita, iOS, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC and Linux,. In 2019, the Brace Yourself Games team released Cadence of Hyrule, a kind of spin-off of the game set in the universe of The Legend of Zelda.
